1948 Mercury , Torch Red/Red, 38,000 Miles

This 1948 Mercury Convertible is the ULTIMATE Street Rod. It was restored. This car was built to show (I have 51 trophy’s) and with the modern suspension it is a great driving machine. It loves to cruise the freeway at 80 mph plus. I started with a 460 c.i. Lincoln engine, added a 522ci Eagle 4.30 forged stroker crank, forged Eagle rods and J & E forged pistons with a 10:1 compression ratio. Then I put in a full race custom Comp cam (duration 242 & 248) (lift .605 & .622). Then we ported and polished Edelbrock aluminum heads (flow intake 365 cfm, exhaust 234 cfm). Then comes a polished Edelbrock intake manifold with a Holley 1050 cfm racing carburetor with a custom chrome air cleaner. 2” stainless steel headers, 3” side outlet exhaust, chrome Ford Racing valve covers, chrome March serpentine belt drive, chrome pulleys, alternator (100 amp), chrome Edelbrock water pump, chrome air conditioning compressor and power steering, chrome oil pan. We had Mattson custom build a triple flow horizontal radiator (the water flows horizontally three times). We run an engine driven fan plus an electric pusher fan plus a third fan that comes on with the air conditioning. This car runs at 180 degrees or less on 100 degree days.

All this got me 660 horsepower and 700 lb.ft. of torque on the dyno. This is coupled to a modified Ford C-6 transmission with a 2400 rpm torque converter, chrome pan, to a chromed drive shaft to a fully chromed Corvette C-3 independent suspension with 3:08 gears. The front suspension is fully chromed Camero with Camero power steering controlled by a chrome Flaming River tilt steering column with a polished wood steering wheel. We have 4 wheel power disc brakes with a Hydro Boost power system that works off the power steering pump. It has Jaguar type true knock-off wire spoke wheels.

This is a one of a kind, and has been babied all its life!

Other really neat stuff: hydraulic power top with Hartz cloth, late G.M. power windows, power seats, Sanden air conditioning (blows cold) and heater, shaved trunk lid with tasteful pin striping, shaved hood with 136 louvers in 8 rows and tasteful pin striping with ghost flames, J.V.C. 10 speaker stereo with CD player, chromed window and gauge moldings, V.D.O gauges, tach that matches the speedometer, period style vinyl tuck and roll upholstery (red), front bucket seats, tuck and roll upholstery in trunk, electric windshield wipers. The paint is Corvette Torch Red (buffed to perfection) base coat/clear coat.

This car is my weekly driver to car shows and for fun. It blows away Harleys at stoplight drags. Please call me with questions or more pictures.
