The 1939 Cadillac 60 Special sedan was designed by Bill Mitchell chief designer of Cadillac Motors in the mid-1930s. This car has been given “Full Classic” status by the Classic Car Club of America.
This car was been shown at the 2002 and 2003 “Wheels and Keels” Concours d’Elegance at the Lakewood Yacht Club, Seabrook, Texas. In 2002 the car won Runner-Up Best of Class. In the 2003 Concours, after a new paint job the car won Best of Class.
This car was on the cover of the Cadillac LaSalle Club’s magazine The Self Starter – the April 2007 issue.
This car has the rare dual side-mounted spare tires in each front fender. Both the spare tires are new B. F. Goodrich white wall tires.
The tires on the ground are close to new 700X16 Denman wide white walls.
The car has working dual fog lights. There is a new 8-volt electrical system and battery. This provides sure starting and bright lights. Directional lights were retrofitted into the front parking lights and rear parking/tail lights.
Flag staffs (2) that mount to the front bumper bracket and flags are included with the car.
The car has had a complete restoration some time in the past. A new paint job was applied in 2003. For the new paint, the car was disassembled (fenders, hood, headlights, etc) and painted separately. The black base coat and clear coat shows deep and glossy today.
The Baccarat crystal trophy for Best of Class in the 2003 “Keel and Wheels” Concours d’Elegance is included.
The interior is as new with correct pattern grey/blue Bedford cord cloth. The carpet is dark blue. The trunk is carpeted in the same carpet. There are front and rear floor mats.
The V-8 engine runs smoothly and moves the car forward at hi-way speed without effort. The engine was rebuilt during the restoration by a previous owner.
The transmission shifts easily. The front end has been rebuilt and parts replaced as required and works well. All gauges work properly and all the glass is good with some delaminating. The windshield wipers work.
New brakes installed in 2009.
The hood and trunk and rear medallions have been restored and look very good
There are very few negatives about the car. While most of the chrome inside and out is in good to great condition there is minor pitting in crevasses in some of the exterior fixtures primarily in the front and rear parking lights.
The original radio and heater are in the car – neither work. The steering wheel has some minor checks. A steering wheel repair kit comes with the car.
Included with the care are manuals, shop manuals, tune-up manuals, lubrication chart, original owners manual, and maintenance records of present and past owners, and trickle charger. There is a non-stock jack and lug nut wrench.
The car is currently located in our air-conditioned garage and under a dust cover in Vero Beach, FL. We have driven locally and have exercised at-speed now and then. It is a solid drive even in our hot season in FL. No matter where we go with this car it will draw attention, waves, and thumbs-up signs.
Prior to my purchasing this 60 S in September 2005, I had a professional inspection completed. This can be made available to qualified buyers. The car has been driven less than 1,000 miles since purchase.
We are selling our 60 Special because another auto project is taking up our free garage space.
