1967 Chevrolet Camaro Indy Pace Car, White/Blue, 50,000 Miles
1967 Chevorlet Camaro Indy Pace Car, Registered in the National Pace Car Registry, 50,000 Original Miles, Garage Kept.
In 1967 The 1st Year Of The Chevrolet Camaro, It Got The Honor Of Pacing The 51st Race At
The Indianapolis Speedway. The 1967 White And Blue RS/SS Convertible That Started The Running Of The Indianapolis “500" On May 30, 1967. It Was Also The 1967 That Started An Underlying Love Affair With The Camaro.
All Of The Information Is From The Official Chevrolet Indy Pace Car Book From 1948 To 1990. Written By D,M. Crispino And John Hooper.
What Is A “Festival Camaro”.
Documents Dictate The Following To Be True: Festival Camaros Are Those RS/SS Convertibles Delivered In Time For The 500 Mile Race Weekend. Like The Actual Pacer, These White Drop Tops Had Bright Blue Vinyl Custom Interior, Matching Top Boot, Right Side Traction Bar, Red Line Tires, Blue Nose Stripe Band Either A Small Block 350 Engine Or A 396 Cid Under The Hood. None Of The Track Cars Were Fitted With The Front And Rear Spoiler Option.
Festival Camaros Can Be Identified By A Special “0-1" Paint Code Stamped On There Firewall Trim Plate. The “0-1" Designates The Ermine White Paint Finish With The White Convertible Top. A Clear Laquer Coating Was Put On To Serve To Purposes - It Helped To Preserve The Blue And Gold Indy Door Decals(Which Al Festival Cars Wore) And It Improved The Cars Appearance On The Track.
It’s Not 100% Conclusive But It May Very Well Be Possible That Only The 43 Parade Cars And The Actual Pace Cars Received The Special “0-1" Paint Code Stamping.
The “Festival” Pacers Were Sold As Used Cars After Their Debut At The Race With Various Dealerships Being Offered An Opportunity To Purchase The Cars On A Regular Company Discount Basis. Some Dealerships Used Them For Promotional Purposes In Their Showrooms While Others Chose Them As Demonstrator Cars. Either Way, Many Of The “Festival” Cars Remained In The Mid West.
“Replica Pace Camaros”
The “Replica Pace Camaros” Do Not Show The “0-1" Paint Code. Instead A “C-1" PAINT Stamping On The Firewall Trim Plate Designates The White Upper And Lower Exterior
Combination. Research Indicates That “All” Festival Camaros Were Manufactured At The Norwood, Ohio Assembly Plant While Replicas Show Both The Norwood And Van Nuys, California Plant .
