What can I say??? This is a very rare Mustang to say the least! Where are you going to find a 428 CJ Ram ???? Mustang GT Coupe that set the IHRA B pure stock automatic National ¼ mile record at Raleigh County Dragway in Beckley West Virginia in 1979? (It still has the paint markings of the intake, valve cover bolts, timing cover bolts, ect. So the track officials would know that after it was inspected and 100% legal that if it was altered they could spot it easily – they used 4 different colors of paint to mark it!) I also have the full permission of the 2nd owner and record setting driver in 1979, Ron Kearns, to call him and ask any questions that you need answered about the ??? Ron also went on to, not only set the National record, but he also was the pure stock championship winner. If you would like to talk to Ron Kearns his phone # here in Jackson, Ohio is 740-286-4????
Well here ??? and you can still drive it out to eat and blow the tires off from light to light! I watched one of these 1968 1/2 428 Coupes on Ebay bid up to 69,950 and still never met the owners reserve price and that Mustang had very little past history! This car has been in storage for the last 15 years until last fall when my little brother Mark purchased it from the 3rd owner in Jackson, Ohio. This is a numbers matching Big Block car-the real deal! Before I bought it from brother Mark in December ’07, I pulled the carb. and valve covers off and took pictures of the matching number original 428 CJ block, heads, intake, 3rd Member, C6 transmission (which has the serial # of the car stamped on top of the case), 31 spline axles and more. Mark, before I purchased it from him, ran a ??? report on the car and it came up dead nuts-right down to the 3.91 traction loc rear. One other thing about the car that is very rare is that a few of these big block mustangs on the inner fender ???? serial # was missing the 5th digit, which would 99% of the time, would be stamped with a “R” or a “S” which would be a 428 or a 390 engine – they missed the “R” on this one completely but the serial # tag on the dash and door jam has the “R” on them! I was informed that a rare few of these big block cars slipped thru the factory and made it out to the dealers without being stamped. This is an example of some of the first 428 CJ Mustangs ever built. Ford created this Little Mustang for a ground pounding sleeper for the muscle enthusiast that raced on Sunday and drove to work on Monday. If you notice the factory hood scoop does not have the ???? tag on the side of it – Ford wanted to surprise it rivals – and it did – in pure ??????? form this beast ran the ¼ mile in 12.20 seconds! Oh, by the way it also has the original GT factory wheels with trim rings and new Firestone Red Line Tires.
