A Little History – Since its introduction in the fall of 1963, the Porsche 911 luxury 2-door sports coupe has undergone continuous development, but the basic concept has remained little changed. Porsche’s internal classification for 1998-2005 Porsche 911s is Type 996. After 34 years of production the famous air-cooled 911 engine was replaced by an all-new water-cooled engine in the 1998 models (first year of Type 996 Porsche 911s).
